On October 22nd, 2010 Sony officially put an end to the Sony Walkman (Cassette Player).  Even though you are too young to remember, the Walkman was the iPod of it’s day.  First introduced in 1979,the Cassette Player was eventually killed off by the CD player in 1986 and THAT was killed off by the mp3 player or iPod in 2000.  Can you make an argument for why the CD player lasted 30 years?  If the iPod is the “IT” player for portable music right NOW, WHAT do you think could replace it as the must have device in the future?  Explain your answers.

I think it lasted 30 years because that was their iPod. They wanted to listen to music and that’s what they used. I’m not really sure whats going to replace iPod. All I know is that if iPods are going to last as long as CD player’s, they still have a long way to go. I doubt they will though, because there’s always something new out.

i can’t make a argument for why cd players lasted 30 years except you can listen to music and people like listening to music.and i guess a ipod 4th generation could replace a ipod as a must have device in the future because it’s cool and has way better stuff on it and you can do a lot of things with it

I have heard of the Sony cassette thing but i don’t remember it. But the CD player was out so long because they were trying to make better and better ones for the future. The must have device in the future will probably be something like plays music and games and apps and touch screen and slider and texting and i.m on the phone instead online and has internet. But the newer i pods are really popular now and it has changed so much since the cassette player.

I think that the CD player lasted for 30 years because it was the first portable music player at the time. I also think the reason the I pod is so popular right now is because its more like a gaming system than anything else.

I think that the CD- player stayed for so long because some people just wanted to here one artists music. And you can buy a CD at a sore cheaper then you can on itunes. Also because the CD- player was cheaper then the ipod or the mp3 player. And really im not so sure on what the future music devise would be.

i think that CD player lasted 30 years because most of the people like listening to music so they decided to make it last more. i am not really sure what could replace it but I’m going to try to guess so i would say maybe another player technology thing or maybe a phone. i think that they took the CD player off or they might take it off because of other type of technology coming out and becoming popular real quick. i mainly think that a phone would take over the other things because this days you can download the music from the phone so you don’t really need to buy a player for your music.

I think that small chips will be placed above the ear. also they will be charged with a small device with a 10 foot charge radius. when ever you are within 10 feet of the device the chip will charge. that will be the future of music. or there could be earrings that you could use the same charging device.

I think that the CD player lasted so long because at the time, it was something new and different. People used records or tapes most of the time. But once they finally made mp3 players and ipods, people started to buy those because most of them were smaller, and some were even easier to use. You just had to put your music on there, and you would have it, but with the CD player, you had to change your CD when you wanted to listen to something different (ex. types of music). I’m not really sure what will end up replacing the mp3 players because they already have touch i-pods.

I think that CD players got put to an end because their to big, and with an mp3 player or iPod you can put it in your pocket and go. Also you don’t have to carry around CD’s, and worry about losing it!

i think the CD player had lasted so long because it was something easy we barley knew about the ipods or we didnt have one at the time. then there wasn’t many places to download music with out paying a lot of money. we also had a lot of Cd’s at the time . and i dont really think there will be something you can do to top ipods.

The CD player was a hit for only 30 years because nobody really wants to download music to their CD’s and play them. People like the I pod’s and Mp3 players better because they can download music on it and listen to it. Also they can listen to them in their cars and not waste money on CD’s if they get scratched up or broking. Maybe something that is more valuable and last a long time it can be better than a Mp3 or I pod. Also maybe the future device can have a protective case already on it so it doesn’t break when you accidently drop it.

i think it lasted 30 year because there was no mp3s or ipods back than in the 70s and 80s so the cd player was the best thing to get to listen to music on the go. i dont really now what can replace the ipods in the future because it all ready has all kinds of cool fetures. Maybe sony or microsofts zune might end up making the next big thing.

i think the only thing could possibly replace the “ipod” and/or “mp3 player” would be a hologram music projector. it would project music videos and/or audio signals (if there’s no video or you just don’t want to watch the video.)
the Walkman old no listens to castes anymore also cds are essayer to cary around. then cds were replaced by mp3s because even essayer to cary and you can get what ever song you want on it.

I think that the CD player lasted for 30 years because the technology we had back then was limited and nobody created the ipod. I think the ipod will never be replaced by anything. The ipod will live on forever because of apples tech workers work daily on a new ipod. Long live the ipod. The only other thing that will ever replace the ipod is a new ipod.

I think the phone could replace it. My reasons are because it can take pictures, record videos, have internet, and much more. It lasted 30 years because It was better than a cassette player. The Mp3 player and Ipod are cooler than the CD’s because they are smaller and can hold more songs than a CD can, which is what you put in a CD player. I would want the phone for all the reasons up there.

A CD player was reliable. You payed good money for good songs. Ipods and others are easily replaced by a phone with hologram stuff or better. CD players lasted because of instant popularity and people listening to music at that time. You didn’t even need to download songs. One other thing, CD players don’t break so easy as Ipods.

I supose the CD player lasted so long because you could download songs on CD’s that some MP3’s and Ipods couldnt connect to or wouldnt take in on the music list! and also the CD playes cost less and at there time was some what cheaper than the Ipods. So to me the Ipods could be going out of style because the creatures are coming out with more and more inventions that people are interested in but the problem is that they’ll be so highly priced that once people see the price their really not going to consume that product.
