On October 22nd, 2010 Sony officially put an end to the Sony Walkman (Cassette Player).  Even though you are too young to remember, the Walkman was the iPod of it’s day.  First introduced in 1979,the Cassette Player was eventually killed off by the CD player in 1986 and THAT was killed off by the mp3 player or iPod in 2000.  Can you make an argument for why the CD player lasted 30 years?  If the iPod is the “IT” player for portable music right NOW, WHAT do you think could replace it as the must have device in the future?  Explain your answers.

i don’t think anything could replace the mp3 player or ipod because you don’t really have to buy nothing but the mp3 player or the ipod because you just download the music from the computer. but if something did then it would probley be the most expensive music thing. But i really dont think anything would replace the ipod or mp3 player

I think nothing can replace the i pod touch. But then you never know because i thought nothing would replace the cd player but they did. nobody knows what the future holds. I think they will come out with something new because right now they have apps you get the music off of and you download the music off sites on the computer.

Haha, actually I do remember. I used to have a cassette player with the sound track for The Little Mermaid when I was very young.
I think CDs lasted so long because (1) you never had to rewind them, (2) they were much more portable and (3) they offered better sound quality. They were extremely convenient. You could take them just about anywhere and listen to them with a portable CD player and headphones. Today, iPods and MP3 players are the most convenient music player. iPods and MP3 players offer more music choices at more affordable prices. And, unlike CDs, you can watch videos and TV, listen to podcast, edit photos, and much more! I think in the future, the iPod could be “killed off” by a music player that is in some way more convenient. Maybe even something that sends music directly to the brain without need for a physical music player. Or a music player in the form of an earbud that you could just pop in and listen to your favorite songs. ♥♥♥~TQ

i think the ipod is still better then walk men, because kids just have more fun. so i dont think the ipod touch can be replaced with any other ipod they have.
so i think tht the ipod touch will be the best for a long time till they come up with a good other ipod. so ipod touch is better.

cd are a good use when your in a car or have a party, but ipods and mp3 players are good for portable use. cd’s probably lasted long becuase they could be portable and could be used stationary and convenent for many situations.

I don’t think anything can replace the ipod but you never know cause every year apple and sony come out with something new and i though when i was a little kid that the cd player was cool but know they have the ipod touch the iphone and the ipad and they are coming out with new stuff each week they are probably testing new stuff for kids to play. And microsoft and sony are coming out with alot of new stuff and apple events a lot of stuff each week or each month so i don’t know what they will come out with in 2011/2012 so we can just sit back and wait to see what they come out with

CD s lasted 30 years because they couldnt find anything to replace it at that time. That is until the IPOD generation started. Then people found a more portable thinng to carry around.

The CD player lasted long because no one really created nothing to do with music players in those 30 years. And the thing that will take out the i pod is something that has more memory space. Internet on the go. And more commercials so people will buy it. And another thing that will make it more popular is if pro teams or some kind of arena sponsor.

I THINK CD PLAYERS LASTED ALONG TIME. BECAUSE THEY GOT CD’S AND DONT REWIND. YOU CAN CHOOSE WHAT SONG AND THEY ARE SMALL SORTA. THAT IS MY OPINION AND IPODS ARE AWSOME.

well alot of cd companies Are big. they do very well. they sell alot, and they are cheaper. someone would rather buy something cheaper that works just as good. i know i would. sometimes itunes is just too much and buying a cd is cheaper. and buying a cd player is cheaper than buying an ipod

I THINK THERE ARE MANY REASON WHY THE CD LASTED 30 YEARS. LIKE, LIME-WIRE IN THE NOW-A-DAYS DOWNLOADING MUSIC SITE. BUT IT WAS NOT A WHILE AGO. SO HOW ELSE WERE THEY GOING TO LISTEN TO MUSIC INSTEAD OF THE RADIO, YES, CDS. BUT WHEN LIME-WIRE AND ALL THOSE OTHER SITES CAME OUT, CDS WERE NOT AS POPULAR. BUT SINCE LIME-WIRE AND ALOT OF MUSIC SITE ARE SHUTTING DOWN BECUASE THEY ARE SELLING FREE MUSIC THAT’S MENT TO BE PAYED FOR, CD STARTING TO START COMING OUT ON TOP. BUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO IPOD AND MP3 STILL SOON NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO DOWN LOAD. WILL THEY START PAYING OF WILL THEY JUST GO BACK TO CDS FOR GOOD. YOU GET MORE MUSIC ON A CDS THAN WHEN U PAY FOR ON SONG ON ANY OTHER SITE.

the only thing that could replace the ipod is a little head phone that plays music do to voice command or brain waves. but thats going to take some time. but i bet that apple is going to pull it off and call it the new ipod. personally i like using cds but i do put some of the songs on a mp3 player. i prefer my sandisk over a ipod cause my sandisk can hold a whole lot of song and can go really loud.

The CD player probably stayed around so long because of it being the only kooler thing than a walkmen back then. In the future, there are probably going to be way better music players than the ipod touch. Things like holographic and touchscreen will be combined into an incredible piece of technological genius. By the press of a button or by word command, a holographic screen could appear in front of you, letting you choose from any genre of music or even games. But, that’s just what i have in mind as of now when i hear about futuristic technology.

Okay well I think the c.d. player was popular for that long because nobody had the right technology or money to make anything better. I honestly do not know what could be better than the iPod. Maybe some type of music thing will be invented that replaces the iPod or the mp3 player. But in my opinion, the iPod is better than the mp3 player.

ii think it lastedd so lonq because people was real interested in the different music people wazs cominq out with . andd it was entertainq to use the head phones andd block everyone out .and ii think the best new thinq wouldd be auh chipp to place in your ear cuz it cant qet no simpler than that . or just another version .

I think the CD player lasted this long because of people still use them a lot. And it replaced the walkmen because people used more Cds than tapes. And the ipods and mp3s will replace the CD plauyers because they will use more download able music and stuff in the future. And wont need a cd. you coud just get it off line when it comes out.
